1994 - 1998 : Soviet Union to Commonwealth of Independent States to the United States of America

Time of great transition for my country, the world and myself. Most interesting times of freedom and experimentation. But in the end my PhD adviser decided to immigrate to the USA and I followed.

Achievements

• Graduated with Masters in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science
• Accepted and was part of Artificial Intelligence PhD program but did not complete
• Got experience in both scientific and industrial domains.
• First industry scale software development jobs.
• Moving to the USA to study and work.

In retrospect

I would not change anything during this period. Except maybe getting married to my first girlfriend and having a kid ... She is on this photo by the way. Can you guess ? :)

1998 – 2006 : US Pacific, Silicon Valley, California

Full time work for start ups and big corporations.

It was spectacular technological revolution.
Market rise, fall & rebirth followed.
But most of all it was a good place to meet great people, make money and have fun in San Frncisco, Bay Area and all the way down south to Los Angeles, San Diego and Tijuana.

Achievements

• living and working in the one of the most prominent technological hot spots in the world and human history (Silicon Valley)
• promotion to the key management positions (web development manager in charge of front end development group)
• work in start-up environment (Interactive Web Concepts, Scientific Digital Visions, etc)
• work for large corporations such as 3Com, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Agilent, etc

In retrospect

My rise from development to management was probably too fast. I did not have as much time to code as I wish I had.

2006 - 2007 : Asia Pacific

My first big escape and attempt at digital nomadism..

I probably was one of the first digital nomads long before co-working became the norm.

At that time I had become idealist and searched for non-profit opportunities that would help and improve the world.

But later I realized that it was not so easy to find honest non non-profit and cause that would make sense.

Achievements

• explored countries in the south east asia: Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Philipinnes, Vietnam
• explored countries and regions in the north east asia: China, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Siberia
• various web development projects

In retrospect

I wish I bought an apartment in the area then ))

2007 – 2014 : US Atlantic, New York, NY, USA

Time to live and work in New York city.

I sell or give away everything that did not fit into my small sporty Nissan 240SX and drove from San Francisco through LA, along Mexican border and Florida up to New York city. I had no idea about what waits for me there but I was confident that it would be a lot of fun ... And it was!

Achievements

• Lead IT & Software development for a global company
• Lived in almost all major New York neighboorhoods

In retrospect

Wall street job would be a good experience too.

2015 – 2017 : America Latina

Second attempt at digital nomading ... Changing East Indies for West Indies

This time offshore was more like nearshore since I did not have to fly across the ocean.

To make it easier I again moved my same car with all that I can take down to Miami from New York

Miami was closest major US city to my new base in Santo Domingo.

Achievements

• Survived major hurricane in Miami.
• Survived major epidemic (Zika virus) in Miami.
• Built a house in Dominican Republic.
• Had a bakery and delivery small business in DR.
• Had a cafeteria small business in DR.
• Projects in web development and design.
• Improved my Spanish from 0 to probably B2.

In retrospect

I visited other countries in Latin America but I should have stayed and worked in some of them such as Colombia or Mexico or Brazil longer.

2018 - 2022 : Kiev, Ukraine and Eastern Europe

Closing the nearly two decade loop and settling down again with family in Kiev.

To be honest I started going back and forth between New York and Kiev several years earlier. I found very different, new but dynamic and booming home country. Revolution, coronovirus and hot war followed several years later introducing totally new challenges.

Achievements

• Re-integrated back to home country (most people never return)
• Survived coronovirus
• Survived first two phases of War (from 2014 and from 2022)
• Worked on numerous intreresting projects (see my CV for details)

In retrospect

Drawing from my experience in managing distributed teams and pre/post sales I had hoped to open and grow my own software sevices company hiring at least 5-10 collegues. But this has not materialised unfortunately. (yet)

2022 – now: Nice - Aurillac - Montpelier - Auch - Gimont - Toulouse?

Escaping the war, chasing the European Dream ...

When I lived in the USA I bought a rather thick book with a catchy title: "How European Dream is eclipsing American Dream". Of course I had no idea then that I am destined to define and verify that claim ))
Thank you France for all the help at the beginning! I had a great 3 month french of 40h/week language course with an internship that landed me a CDD contract with the Council of the Department of Gers. Almost a year later I need to repeat all that again. I need a new contract, maybe even CDI because I must move to the big city. My European Dream is well defined just in one sentence. All I need now is to test if this can be achieved in a resonable time.

Predicting and defining the Future

My future, your future and ours future

MINIMUM: Our absolute minimum goal is to avoid global or nuclear war and HELP to avoid locking borders and simply let people to escape geographic areas in the state of natural or human made disaster (wars, colnflicts, etc).

FUNDAMENTALS: Medical assistance, quality food, social interactions, transportation and housing should be available, accessible and affordable. Lets work on the technology that makes this possible.

LOCATION: I personally prefer to live in a large enough city.
COMMUNITY: With open minded local and active international crowd ...
TRAVEL: With the opportunity to travel in the region and beyond ...
JOBS: If jobs are not easily available we should be able to create them ourselves or be able to work remotely ...
